Head on over to TIGI online store and get your FREE (including FREE shipping) "Girls Just Want It Lip Palette".

60% to 80% off at Michaels

My middle daughter has a school project coming due in the New Year and so we stopped off at Michael's today (despite the snow). I noticed that most of the Christmas stuff was 60% to 80% off.

I forgot to mention that there is an additional 20% off coupon you can use tomorrow.

There was this pretty wreath that originally was $129.99 and it's now 80% off making it only $25.99. With the additional 20% off it'd be $20.74! That's a savings of over $100!

Scotch Gift Wrap Cutter @ Target, part 2

I had to take a prescription in to the pharmacy tonight and decided to go over the Christmas stuff again. Today they had more of the Scotch Gift Wrap Cutter out. Price $2.49. If you have a $2 off coupon your final price will be 49 cents plus tax. There were $1 off coupons in one of the inserts from a couple of weeks ago. Either way, that's a good steal.

Sunday, December 27, 2009

Steal: Target's 50% off sale

Granted by next week their Christmas stuff should be down to 90% but this was still a great steal!

Location: Kennewick Target
Item: Scotch Gift Wrap Cutter
Original price: $4.99
Clearance price: $2.49
Coupon: $2 off
Final price: 49 cents! (plus tax)

I spend TWO HOURS looking for it while I was shopping. It was the very last one I could find and it was actually in the office supplies area instead of mini-seasonal or seasonal. I was disappointed since I had three more $2 off coupons plus a half dozen $1 off coupons but I'll take the one.

I also picked up Scotch Magic Tape (three pack) for $1.49 as well as lots of Glade and Febreze holiday fragrances for around 49 cents to $1.25 (each) after coupons. Total savings: $61.72, total spent $112.98.

I really didn't buy that much holiday stuff but rather household cleaning supplies since the kids are home and it's a few days before New Years. I'm superstitious - house must be clean, clean before the 30th for us to have good luck. Dirty house = rotten luck.

Walgreens January coupon book is now available!

The new booklet is out and it contains over $400 in store coupons. Right now I can't see the booklet since there is no light in our family room (need to get an electrician out here to find out why we have no power to any of the lights down here).

Great Albertsons' steal

Making this quick since I'm off to bed and forgot about it until I got into bed....

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.usLocation: Albertsons on Gage
Item: Ocean Spray Cranberry Jelly, 16 oz
Cost: 10 cents EACH!

It's supposed to be 10 for $10 but instead of ringing up as $1 it rang up as a dime! The 14 oz can is ringing up as a $1 so the 16 oz can is a great steal!

Personally I bought 81 cans (3 cases plus 9 cans) since my entire family loves the stuff and we have yet another dinner to host tomorrow night.

Day After Christmas store hours

So what are YOU doing reading this? My excuse for posting is that the only family I have are my kids and hubby - my brothers don't live near us, my in-laws live in Boston, my mother doesn't come over for Christmas - and right now the kids are cleaning their mess. Six kids with presents from Santa, grandparents and us = BIG MESS. Hubby is getting ready to make Christmas dinner (he's technically a professional chef having graduated from Johnson and Wales Culinary but now works for the government as a computer tech) - I don't cook (on orders from the fire department, lol).

So tomorrow is the big Day After Christmas Sales where everything you bought full price yesterday goes on sale at 50% tomorrow. Sucks doesn't it? Yup, we bought a ton of stuff at Target yesterday that will go from either full price or 30% off to 50% off then within two weeks it'll be at 90% off. I use to work at the Kennewick Target, years ago, but don't recall their price adjustment policy on clearance items.

At any rate store houses for stores tomorrow are:
  • Target: 7 AM - 11 PM
  • ShopKo: 7 AM - 10 PM
  • Walmart: reopens at 6 AM?
  • Walgreens: 8 AM - 10 PM (Clearwater store goes back to being 24 hrs)
  • RiteAid: 8 AM - 10 PM (395 store goes back to being 24 hrs)
  • Albertsons: reopens at 6 AM - 24 hrs
  • Safeway: 5 AM - midnight
  • Yoke's: 5 AM - midnight
  • Fred Meyer: 6 AM - 11 PM
  • WinCo: reopens at 6 AM?
  • Save A Lot: 8 AM - 9 PM
  • Red Apple: 7 AM - 11 PM
  • Fiesta Foods: no idea

TCH ads, part 2

Inside the TCH:
  • Toys 'r' Us
  • Macy's furniture
  • Sears
A4- Griggs half price toy store
A5 - Macy's coupons
A8  - Craft Warehouse ad
D6- Big Lots full page ad

Lots of other little ads in the paper of course but those were the main ones that caught my eye.

shopperCHAT

I was invited to joint shopperCHAT through e-Rewards and found it to be a WASTE of time.

I signed up on Friday, December 18; created my forum account on Sunday, December 20 and was told by participating that I could earn incentives and rewards. Well the site is extremely laggy and takes up to a minute to open a link much less post. I figured that I'd give it a shot a few days later in case they were having problems on their end (since no other site is that laggy for me). Well today I get this e-mail from them:

Thank you once again for joining shopperCHAT! Even though you are currently a member of our community, you have not shown any participation activity since the day you first joined shopperCHAT. As a result of your inactivity, your account automatically transitions over from a full membership status (where you can earn incentives by posting) to a networking membership status (where you can meet new members and communicate through special forums, but not earn incentives).

As of today, December 21st, we have reached our full membership applicant quota and won’t be able to reinstate you to full membership status until our next recruit, which will be early next year. Even though you don’t have a full access membership, you can still participate in discussions with fellow members through our special forums “The Buzz” and “The Idea Center.” The Idea Center allows you to communicate directly with Coca-Cola on your thoughts surrounding new products, promotions etc. We have received some really great feedback from these forums and we encourage you to explore them and post your own ideas.
Date I received the e-mail from them? Tue 12/22/2009 5:13 AM!

I'm sorry but that's just wrong since it feels like a scam. You get someone to sign up and within 24 to 48 hours tell them (basically), "thanks for signing up for earning incentives but now you're not going to be able to because you didn't post right away". Yeah, no thanks.

I've done a ping to their website just to verify if it was my connection or theirs. It's theirs.

Albertsons Doublers + Gage store complaint

I forgot to mention yesterday that the Albertson's ad contains doublers. Normally all the stores carry the ads - either in the vestibule or behind the counter at customer service.

I went shopping last night and planned on using three doublers to get some cereal to make Rice Krispies treats but left my doublers on the table - had my coupons with me though. I figured, "no biggie since I know they have extra at customer service."

I get there and of course there is no one at customer service and literally waited five minutes for someone to show up - one was paged within a minute or so of my waiting there. I ask the young lady if I could get the ad that came in Sunday's paper and she said, "sure" then reached down and handed me Wednesday's ad. I said, "no today's ad, this is Wednesday's". Her response along with another lady who went behind the counter, "Oh we no longer carry those, you'll need to purchase a paper now to get the doublers." THAT made me mad because I know it's a lie. I asked her what about the other Albertsons and she said, "ALL the Albertsons no longer will carry the doublers in store, you have to buy the paper".

Now I KNOW these two women lied because I called the Lee Store this morning and asked if they carried the Sunday doublers and she said, "Yes, we'll always have them out unless we run out." I explained to her what happened and she apologized for their behavior and said to come to the Lee store to shop because they had tons of doublers and loved couponers. Well the Lee store is out of my way. Techincally the Edison store is supposed to my "closest" store but it's actually the Gage store that is.

I'm writing the corporation and the Gage store manager about my experience and hope that the attitudes at the Gage store changes. I knew that couponers were not "welcomed" at the Gage store. Before I started couponing one cashier told me that couponers are "psychos" and I've been told all kinds of things, once I started couponing, by cashiers or overheard things from cashiers after I paid for my purchases and used lots of coupons.

I love the Gage store because it's the closest grocery store to my home, it's the cleanest and they typically have things in stock when the others stores don't BUT I'm fed up with the attitude of the cashiers. Things are going to have to change if they don't want people like me to continue to make negative comments about their lack of customer service.

Sara Lee pies

Another blogger had posted that the Sara Lee pies are on sale for $1.98 at WinCo. Not all WinCos have the pies at that price. The Kennewick store has the pies on sale for $2.98. With the $1 off coupon the final price would be $1.98 not 98 cents as reported on other blogs.

Gift idea: Treats for kids

I was looking at my Pier 1 e-mail from the other day and saw so many cute things for kids but let's face it some of those items are EXPENSIVE.

Look at Holiday Crispie Pops. Cute, right? But $3.20 for ONE?! Ouch. You can make a whole slew of "Crispie Pops" for far less. You'll need Rice Krispies, the ingredients for their treats, Popsicle sticks and chocolate to coat the treats. Follow the directions at the Rice Krispies site but cut the bars so they're longer and insert a stick into each one. Once they cool off coat with melted chocolate, let sit on a cookie rack then wrap. Of course you can add sprinkles and other stuff to it. You can probably make a dozen or so treats for under $10 (to buy 12 treats from Pier 1 would cost you around $38 plus tax).

I'll make some this weekend for the kids and post step-by-step instructions then.

Here's another idea. It costs $8 for a bag of cocoa, probably not even "GOOD" cocoa to give as gifts. Well you can go to the store and buy boxes of cocoa mix for $1 (typically has 8 to 10 packages). Get some Christmas fabric from Joann's along with fabric glue (or you can sew the bags) and ribbon to tie. Cut the fabric to fit each packet of cocoa (one or packets) then glue the fabric to form a pouch or sew it. I think using quilters quarters would work find but if not, you can pick up a yard of fabric for around $5 and ribbon spools start at $1. So basically for less than $10 you can make nearly a dozen cocoa gift pouches.

I'll be making those with the kids as well for their friends so I'll have exact costs and details this weekend as well.

Hopefully.

FREE iPod/iPhone apps

Skip my rambling by clicking here.

So the hubby bought my an iPod Touch for Christmas. Ok, so that's still over a week away but he got one from his boss during the Christmas party and we had agreed to get each other one for Christmas... I got mine early as a result! :)

I LOVE the iPod Touch. LOVE IT. Except it doesn't have a camera which sucks. Basically the iPod Touch is the iPhone minus the phone and camera. That's fine, I have a cellphone that I RARELY use, there is no point in spending $300 for the phone and $150 (plus tax and other fees) a month in phone service. Yup, that's for ONE phone. If we both had IPhones it'd be over $300 a month in phone service! Actually out of pocket for the first month would be $647.64. That's for two 32 GB 3G iPhones. If we went with the 8 GB 3G iPhone for $99 it would still be $428.88 out of pocket for two phones!

Here's the monthly fees PER PHONE:

Plan: Nation Unlimited $99.99
Services: Data Plan for iPhone $30.00
iPhone Messaging Unlimited $20.00

That's $149.99 plus tax PER PHONE! Again, over $300 a month. Yeah, no thanks. I'll stick with the iPod Touch which cost us $195 for the 8 GB (I compromised, he was going to get me a 64 GB but I decided I rather have two of my kittens on vet plans for that money). Like I said, the iPod Touch is basically the iPhone minus the phone and camera. You can add a phone through Skype by simply adding on the add on and buying a headset with a microphone. You can connect to the internet with the iPod Touch so long as there is a wireless network you can connect to. No biggie for us since our home network is wireless and the hubby's work place is also wireless. Traveling on the other hand... no hotspots = no phone.

Okay, that all said.... The free apps I LOVE with my iPod Touch. You can get these free apps by launching the App Store in your iTunes program. Twitter me your favorite iPod/iPhone app name!

It does cost 99¢ to buy and according to the specs it works with the IPod Touch. Just keep in mind that the IPod Touch does NOT come with a camera so the scanning part will not work. I don't have this app (I love FREE apps) to test it out with my IPod Touch.

Wednesday TCH ads

My eldest had such a rough time delivering papers this morning due to all the ice. Those of you who enjoy a subscription to the TCH please remember to de-ice your driveways and walkways as well as leave your exterior lights on. It's very dangerous for the carriers during the winter months so please do as much as your can to ensure your carrier's safety.

We're always told our customers that they should expect delays in the winter months due to road and walking conditions. If you don't get your paper by 9 AM then please call the TCH but please don't expect your paper by 6 AM on days like today.

That said... Here's what's in today's TCH.

Pizza Hut coupons (perfect timing today since the kids are home from school)
City of Kennewick Rec program guide
Fiesta Foods
Save A Lot
Rite Aid
Safeway
Big 5
Albertsons
Walmart
Walgreens
JCPenney
Yoke's

Also inside the TCH there are a few coupons to look out for:

A4 - ad for free jewelry from Touchstore Jewelers (there's a catch but they're not saying what)
A7 - $10 off a $25 or more purchase @ Macy's
D2- LOTS of Fred Meyer coupons (more on that later)
I'll post deals shortly.

Lowes' coupons

I hate this time of year - flu and cold season - two of my kids came down with something on Sunday and of course that put me two days behind my blogging.

Here's some coupons to look out for at Lowes.
  • On select packages of 3M Painters Tape there is a coupon for $10 off your next purchase of $50 or more.
I had a 10% off my total purchase when I changed my address with the USPS when I moved my mail from my mailbox at The UPS Store to my home address. I also saved myself almost $250 a year by doing that. I used that 10% to purchase paint supplies since the hubby is painting the living room and dining room today! Gone are the plain white (boring) walls. The new color is called Cracker Blitz.

So while I was waiting for my paint to be mixed I spotted on the counter a nice little coupon book filled with nice Lowes coupons. All the coupons in the booklet expire on January 15, 2010.

  • Save $5 on Windex Outdoor All-in-On
  • Save $1 on Windex Wipes (28-ct)
  • Save $1 on Windex Powerized Glass Cleaner, trigger or Windex Antibacterial, trigger (32 oz)
  • Save $2 on Pledge Aerson Lemon or Orange Scent (Commercial Line, 17.7 oz)
  • Save $2 on Pledge Hardwood Floor trigger (Commercial Line, 32 oz)
  • Save $3 on Pledge Hardwood Floor (Commercial Line, 128 oz)
  • Save $4 on Pledge Tile & Vinyl Floor (Commercial Line, 128 oz)
  • Save $1 on Antibacterial Scrubbing Bubble Bathroom Cleaner Fresh Clean or Lemon Scent (22 oz aersol)
  • Save $4 on Scrubbing Bubble Automatic Shower cleaner starter kit
  • Save $2 on Scrubbing Bubble toilet Cleaning Gel Fresh Clean or Citrus Scent

  • Save $2 on any Glade Plugin Scented Oil Lasting Impressions Starter Kit

ShopKo: December 13 - 19 ads

ShopKo will be having a great deal on a GPX 2GB MP3 player for $14.99! As much as I love my IPod Touch (and I own a Shuffle) I wouldn't get my kids an IPod simply because I'd worry they'd either lose the thing or break it. For $15 this is a great alternative to give a pre-teen or teen who wants a mp3 player but you don't want to break the bank.

Also on sale:

Innovative Technology Keychain: 1.5" color display, 8 MB memory. Stores up to 58 pictures - $7 with your ShopKo savings card!

The IPod Touch (8 GB) is on sale for $199.99 with a $10 ShopKo gift card but it's less at Target despite the fact that Target doesn't have a gift card with the 8 GB (with the 32 and 64 GB there are gift cards).

All boxed DVD sets are on sale but only a select few are on sale for $19.99. A few good titles to choose from.

Nothing else really pops out at me as a "OMG, I must get down there first thing tomorrow morning." There are some decent prices on other things but remember, Target price matches so long as you have the ad with you and it meets their requirements to price match.

Harbor Freight Tools coupon: FREE flashlight!

A few weeks ago, Harbor Freight Tools had a flier in the the Sunday ad pack that included a coupon for a FREE flashlight. Well they've brought the coupon back!

No purchase required, with coupon, get a FREE 3-1/2" super bright nine LED aluminum flashlight!

PetCo deals: December 13 - 19

A couple of things caught my eye.

Select cat scratching posts for $9.99 (while supplies last). I'll be picking up a couple of these since I have several indoor cats.

Cat apparel and toys starting at $1.49. I'm a cat person, what more can I say? ;)

Various kitty treats are 20% off, pair those with some cat coupons for cat treats and that's a really good deal.

TCH Ad Pack: December 13 - 19 ads

Here's what to expect in the TCH ad pack tomorrow. Remember, not all ads are in the ad pack so I'll have the rest of the ads listed tomorrow.

Fair warning to parents with teen daughters...

Prom 2010 dresses are starting to arrive at stores! I'm still catching up with my e-mails and saw one from David's Bridal from their David's Prom line. The 2010 dresses are heading our way so start saving for those dresses.

If your daughter competes in beauty pageants, right now is the best time to head on over to places like the Purple Parasol (in Kennewick) and see what they have on clearance from the 2009 line. I know my eldest wants to compete, again, in the Miss Tri-Cities Outstanding Teen pageant (part of the Miss America pageants) so it's dress hunting season for us.

    Where to get coupons

    BEST PLACE: The Sunday newspaper!

    In stores:

Blinkies – Found on various store aisles these little machines spit out coupons as you pull them out. Most blinkies have little lights that blink hence the name.

Catalinas – Receipt-like coupons printed at the register. Not all stores have Catalinas (such as WinCo). These are typically NOT printed on the back of the register receipt.

Hang/Wine Tags – Found around the neck of a bottle with a little piece of string or rubber band.

Peelies – Coupons found on certain products that peel away from the product.

Tearpads – Coupons on a tear away pad. Typically found in a display and not directly on the product.

    Other ways:

Home mailers - sign up for products online or even contact a company to either complain or complement their products. Click here for a blog with over 200 links to companies that will mail you coupons!

Internet coupons - There are many places online that you can print coupons from. See links below for printable online coupons.

Magazines – Pretty much all magazines will have coupons in it. Better Homes & Gardens, Sunset, Parenting, Working Mother are a few. The BEST magazine with coupons is All You magazine.
