I forgot to mention this yesterday but at Target the Purina Wisker Lickin's cat treats are on sale for 97¢ each. In the 11-15-09 SS coupon insert was a coupon for $1 off any 2 packages.

99¢ x 2 = $1.98 - $1 = 94¢ ÷ 2 = 49¢ each. OR think of it this way... B1G1F!! Woohoo! My cats LOVE Purina kitty treats. I still have a ton of these coupons so I'll pick more treats up for my kitties later tonight.

The other deal is with Purina's Friskies Party Mix on sale but for $1.25 each. Also in the 11-15 SS insert was a coupon for $2 off any 2. This made each this practically a steal! $1.25 x 2 = $2.50 - $2 = 50¢ ÷ 2 = 25¢ each!

There are four B1G1 coupons in the insert (according to the P&G website). Unfortunately, those of us living in Kennewick, Richland and Pasco will NOT see a stand alone P&G coupon insert in the TCH. The only papers in WA state that will have a P&G coupon insert are these papers:

Thankfully we do get The Seattle Times, you can find it at your local grocery store or gas station. I'm not sure if we can get the Walla Walla Union Bulletin at the Pasco post office or the Moses Lake Columbia Basin Herald (which contains Red Plum and Smart Source coupons).

The CBH is an afternoon newspaper (M-F only, no weekend paper). Years ago the Pasco (main) post office use to carry the CBH and other papers outside in vending machines. I know they still have the TCH but I don't know what other papers they still sell.

Is it really a deal?

Sometimes a deal just isn't that great of a deal especially if you have to go cross town to get the "deal". If you factor in gas sometimes sticking closer to home is better. Let's take a look at my situation. I live in Kennewick so for me the closest stores are Albertsons (Gage/Leslie or Edison/Clearwater). In fact, let's break down the mileage for me.

Albertsons (Gage/Leslie) is approximately 3 miles from my home. Considering that there is a Walgreen's across the street and two banks (Hapo & Chase) right across the street) plus a Blockbuster, Albertsons gas station and Shell Gas Station this makes it convenient to me.

Albertsons (Edison/Clearwater) is approximately 2½ miles from my home HOWEVER there really isn't anything else nearby (US Bank is across the street) that I often use.

Kennewick WinCo is nearly 3 miles from my home and while Hapo is nearby (along with Dutch Brothers) there isn't a Walgreens nearby or any place to rent movies at a reasonable cost (Hollywood Video kiddie-corner to them but that place is VERY expensive to rent from).

Richland WinCo is 6 miles from my home and 4 miles from the hubby's work. It means I have to get on the 240 to get to the store.

Walmart (Kennewick) is nearly 6½ miles from me. The Walmart in Richland less than 6 miles and the Pasco Walmart is nearly 10 miles! Since Yoke's in Pasco is across the street from Walmart that makes Yoke's in Pasco basically the same distance from my home. Yoke's in West Richland is nearly 10½ miles from my home while the Kennewick store is between 6½ to 7 miles depending on which street I take to get there.

Now there are two Safeways in our area - Richland and Kennewick. Needless to say the Richland Safeway is much further from my home (nearly 8 miles) while the Kennewick store is only a little over 4 miles.

Oh and let's not forget Fred Meyer. The Richland store is nearly 7 miles away while the Kennewick store is nearly 5.

So is it really a deal for me to drive to places like Yoke's just to save a few dollars? No. If you drive a small economical car then yes, because your vehicle won't be guzzling gas like crazy unlike my SUV monster. I keep telling the hubby I need a small car to run errands because my SUV takes almost 45 gallons to fill up (and right now 40 gallons x $2.82/gal = $113 to pretty much fill it).

One of the reasons I shop at Albertsons on Gage & Leslie is because of the gas perks but I will also shop at the Richland WinCo. I try to stay close to home but I will travel to the Richland WinCo to shop (I can't reiterate how much I dislike the Kennewick WinCo). While the Gage Albertsons is further than the Edison store the fact that there are other stores nearby makes it worth my time to go there. I also shop the Kennewick Target and Costco so it makes sense for me to remain in the area to shop then go any place else. I do shop at the Edison Albertsons if I'm in the area (my daughters schools are nearby as is our dentist) but to me it's not that closer if I have to run to the bank (which is another two miles from the Edison store).

So, here's sometime to consider when you're shopping. Is it really a deal if you have to travel further to save a few dollars? Sometimes the answer is no.

Edit: Okay, added my purchases from yesterday (the day I should have received my scanner if I was home). It was easy. With the purchases from Payless I had to type in the UPC numbers since my sons were so eager to put their new shoes on that they misplaced the tags. With the purchases from Target I still had the items in their packages so scanning the barcodes was a cinch.

Last May, we discussed a number of challenges facing[1] Blogger users who relied on FTP to publish their blogs. FTP remains a significant drain on our ability to improve Blogger: only .5% of active blogs are published via FTP — yet the percentage of our engineering resources devoted to supporting FTP vastly exceeds that. On top of this, critical infrastructure that our FTP support relies on at Google will soon become unavailable, which would require that we completely rewrite the code that handles our FTP processing.

Three years ago we launched Custom Domains[2] to give users the simplicity of Blogger, the scalability of Google hosting, and the flexibility of hosting your blog at your own URL. Last year's post discussed the advantages of custom domains over FTP[3] and addressed a number of reasons users have continued to use FTP publishing. (If you're interested in reading more about Custom Domains, our Help Center has a good overview[4] of how to use them on your blog.) In evaluating the investment needed to continue supporting FTP, we have decided that we could not justify diverting further engineering resources away from building new features for all users.

For that reason, we are announcing today that we will no longer support FTP publishing in Blogger after March 26, 2010. We realize that this will not necessarily be welcome news for some users, and we are committed to making the transition as seamless as possible. To that end:
o We are building a migration tool that will walk users through a migration from their current URL to a Blogger-managed URL (either a Custom Domain or a Blogspot URL) that will be available to all users the week of February 22. This tool will handle redirecting traffic from the old URL to the new URL, and will handle the vast majority of situations.
o We will be providing a dedicated blog[5] and help documentation
o Blogger team members will also be available to answer questions on the forum, comments on the blog, and in a few scheduled conference calls once the tool is released.

We have a number of big releases planned in 2010. While we recognize that this decision will frustrate some users, we look forward to showing you the many great things on the way. Thanks for using Blogger.

Time to do some printing. Remember, from each site you can typically print TWO of the same coupon. Example, say there is a coupon for $1 off one box of Kellogg's Corn Flakes well you can print TWO copies of it (each will have it's own unique number). Sometimes you'll find the coupon on Coupons.com at the same time you'll find it at All You and CouponBug.com. This means you can print it SIX times and have six unique coupons for the same dollar amount. Happy couponing!

I dropped off my new prescription at Target so when I go pick it up this evening I'll have to remember to take my $10 off coupon (printed at Target.com).

My oldest two are home sick today so I bought some orange juice. Here's a quick recap of my spending at Target today.

The Blue Buffalo coupons came! I have a $3 coupon off any Blue natural cat food and a $5 coupon off any Blue natural dog food! Pair these up with my $5 off Petsmart coupon to get up to $10 off a bag of dog food or $8 off cat food!

My shopping trips today

No real savings today.

I stopped off at Albertsons before noon to buy cupcakes for my youngest daughter's class (some kind of party today, no idea only saw the letter from the teacher on Friday asking for cupcakes). I ended up spending $17.98 on two cupcake platters. Ouch! I did get a $2 survey question though which I need to do so my next shopping trip I'll get $2 off.

I then stopped off at the Albertsons' gas station and put $50 in gas into the car. I went inside to use my 35 cents off gas savings. Each gallon of gas was then $2.46 instead of $2.81. I did save about $7 using my gas perks. That'll last me about a week. Ugh, the joy of driving a SUV.

Went to lunch with the hubby at Inca. We spent $17.70 after tip. After I dumped him back off at work I stopped at Target to pick up some prescriptions and bought myself a Pepsi and a book for my son. I spent $4.33 at Target since the book was on clearance for $2.51 (original price was $3.59).

Total spent today: $90.01.
Total savings today: $8.19

Ok, so $275 was to get my cat spayed. Most of the money went toward the animals - vet, food and miscellaneous items (aka, cat litter). We have two ferrets, one dog, nine cats... least I think nine cats... (Zeus, Athena, Apollo, Artemis, Hermes, Hades, Perseus, Demeter and Sunday)... Yes, nine cats... All but three are indoor cats (Artemis, Hades and Perseus are outdoor cats). The majority are pure white. In fact, Demeter (the one who went in for a spay on Saturday) is a long tail, long fur, two blue eyes, white cat. She's also deaf. Needless to say the cats are also among the most expensive of the pets since there's more of them to eat and well poop.

I think this month was a fluke for the most part because I did pay nearly $300 for the vet bill and switched the dog from her $50 a month dog food to two different brands to find the right one for her. She's a German Shepherd Dog (AKC registered) and like most of her breed, she has very sensitive skin. We switched her to a food that's made especially for GSDs hoping that help her skin. So at around $50 a bag it did get pricey for her.

Thankfully the ferrets are my inexpensive pets since their bag of food (around $25 a month) lasts them an entire month since we supplement with chicken, chicken bones, ham bones and beef bones. Those two are fat, fat, fat. Their major expense came in buying them a new water bottle this month ($15) plus their ferret food (roughly $25).

I hope February is better month on my budget.
